Principal
city of ancient Cyprus, north of modern day Famagusta. According
to the Homeric epics, Salamis was founded after the Trojan War
by the archer Teucer, who came from the island of Salamis, off
Attica. |

It
was founded as Arsinoe by the Macedonian Egyptian king Ptolemy
II. It has some of the finest examples of medieval military architecture.
There are plenty of shops to be found in & outside the city
